If you are looking for a unique dining experience, Biswa Bangla Gate Restaurant might come as a first choice. It is an iconic place in the heart of extended Kolkata known as Newtown. The city of Kolkata is always been top of the list for unique food experiences for the last few decades.

We can easily say that Kolkata is the capital of fusion food whether it is continental or any Desi Khana. This blog is for the people who want to experience the ambiance and food parallelly.

On a lazy winter evening, we set our for the eastern part of the city to witness the sunset, followed by a handsome dinner keeping the busy streets under our feet.

Biswa Bangla Restaurant Timing

It is only available for lunch and dinner facilities. Lunch hours are restricted from 1 PM to 4 PM, last entry is at 3.30 PM. Dinner time is a little shorter which allows entry from 7 PM to 10 PM, last entry at 9.30 PM.

Previously they allowed an entry of Rs. 100 per person to roam around as there were as many options to choose from for your plate. But, now it is affiliated with Cafe Ekante which is an initiative by HIDCO.

This particular brand is not only serving here but also as a small kiosk outside. Cafe Ekante itself is a popular hangout place inside Eco Park where you can sit back and relax by the lake.

Biswa Bangla Gate Booking

There is no such booking option available. Previously, it was available to book slots via BookMyShow, but, now it is totally a first come first serve basis. Currently, due to Covid19, they are allowing for a certain portion for dining, it will be better if you arrive early and reserve your seat.

The menu is a blend of quite a variety starting from continental to Indian to Oriental but, when it comes to quality it is pretty average. We ordered a nonveg soup which comes with only one option i.e. hot and sour and no continental option was available for that day too.

The sitting arrangement is OK but please don’t expect any good views from the top. You can obviously roam around the entire circular structure and take a look at how it looks from 180 feet height.

Final Takeaway

At the bottom, I can only include it is a well-themed restaurant and architecture built on the theme “Biswa Bangla”. But, being a foodie I expected a lot starting from the service to the availability, quality, variety, and cost too.

There are lots of areas they can improve that I felt. But, yes, you should give it a try despite the fact it is the first hanging restaurant in the city of Kolkata.
