Madurai – Coimbatore: Places For Faith and Food

Madurai - Coimbatore Places For Faith and Food

Yet, after living in the neighboring state for a few years, I wanted to see what else the state of Tamil Nadu could offer. And it is not just because of my wanderlust, I wanted to explore the cities of faith and food – and how people are getting involved in it – swimmingly.

Interesting? That’s what I felt before planning a long weekend trip from Bangalore with my family. This time it is not my bike but a properly planned bus and train journey from and to Bangalore.

Let’s dive into some facts about both cities first.

Madurai is a beautiful ancient city. It is a historical and cultural city, known for its temples and famous food. It is the second largest city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai is exceptionally beautiful, with thousands of pillars and intricate carvings. The Kuthirai (means horse) Vahanam (means vehicle) at Meenakshi Amman Temple denotes the symbolic presence of art and culture. Some restaurants worth visiting are in the city center. There are a quite few suggestions I received from other travelers, though had gone through my own experiment to try on mutton kadi dosa, kutthu porotta, goli soda, mutton sukka, etc.

Quick suggestions if you are looking to collect for yourself, and your loved ones here in Madurai. Start with Cotton fabric, and gradually move towards hand oven silk sarees. If you are fond of home decor and want to run your passion pocket-friendly way then can definitely check for bell metal lamps, bronze images, wood carvings.

Coimbatore is an industrial city with origins in the textile industry. Coimbatore has grown rapidly in recent years to become one of the most important cities in South India which is also the third largest city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. A trip to Coimbatore can be combined with a visit to the Nilgiris Mountains or Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary. Adiyogi Shiva – The source of Yoga, is one of the primal attractions of Coimbatore. It has a cool climate compared to other cities in Tamil Nadu.

Ok, coming to towards the suggestions of your collections you can collect cotton fabric and silk shares from here as well. Apart from that, you can another great option can be spices.

After reading up on Madurai and Coimbatore, I realized that they were perfect weekend trip destinations with some interesting things to do. Madurai and Coimbatore are connected by a modern highway that takes about 4 hours to travel. The town of Palani, west of Madurai and east of Coimbatore, has a famous temple that attracts more than 10 million visitors every year known as Dhandayuthapani Temple.

A weekend trip to Madurai and Coimbatore can be combined with other excursions around Tamil Nadu and Kerala. They may not be fully equipped to accommodate travelers but are great for short weekend getaways!
Both are tourist destinations with a lot of exciting experiences in store, but it’s best to be prepared for a spiritual or religious experience. If travelers are searching for nature-enclosed destinations then these two are not worth your time.
